On Tuesday 21 January, colleagues from the VolkerLaser spent the day volunteering for CARE UK.

Giving back to the community is an important part of what we do at VolkerLaser, and earlier this week, five colleagues based out of our Warrington Office had the chance to spend their volunteering day supporting CARE UK

CARE UK was established in 2015 as a response to the refugee crisis and has since grown to provide vital humanitarian aid and community support worldwide. Closer to home, the charity runs a dedicated ‘Homes Team’ in Warrington to assist local families and individuals in need.

The team started their day with an introduction to CARE UK’s history and the important work it does within the Warrington community and beyond. The team learned about the scale of the charity’s operations, before rolling up their sleeves and getting to work.

The team then helped sort donations into three categories:

  • Shop-ready items: High-quality, clean, and branded donations, as well as new items with tags, to be sold in CARE UK’s charity shops
  • Items for those in need: Good-quality donations suitable for packaging and distribution to individuals and families referred to the charity.
  • Non-reusable items: Donations that couldn’t be repurposed.

Alicia Landells, Quantity Surveyor at VolkerLaser and one of our volunteers, said: "The experience has really opened my eyes to the hard work the volunteers and the CARE UK staff do every day. Learning about the number of referrals the charity received was shocking.

It was a busy day; we had plenty to do but we did have some fun”

Volunteering days like these are a fantastic opportunity for our teams to step away from their work environment and make a difference to their local community. We’re proud to have supported CARE UK and look forward to working with them again in the future.

“We really enjoyed having your team with us on Tuesday, they all worked extremely hard and did a fantastic job of helping us sort donations. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They are welcome back anytime!”
