Making a difference at Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter

On Wednesday 5 February, 10 colleagues from the Worcester office spent the day volunteering at the Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter (WARS), helping to improve the space where the animals and their potential families get to know each other.

The day began with an introduction to the shelter, where we learned about the incredible work WARS does in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats in need. After the briefing, the team got straight to work on revamping two of the shelter’s ‘chill-out’ rooms with a fresh coat of paint to create a more comfortable environment for the animals and families alike.

In the afternoon, the team got split into two groups. One group continued painting to complete the transformation of the chill-out rooms, while the other had the opportunity to spend time walking the dogs and meeting the cats. After about an hour, the groups swapped tasks, ensuring everyone got a chance to contribute both to the renovation work and interacting with the shelters furry residents. .

Molli Jones, CSR apprentice, said: “It was an incredibly fulfilling day, leaving us all with a sense of accomplishment and a greater appreciation for the dedication of the WARS team. Seeing the difference a small effort can make in enhancing the shelter’s facilities and enriching the animals lives was truly inspiring. A huge thank you to WARS for welcoming us and to our colleagues for their hard work and enthusiasm. We look forward to supporting the shelter again."

“We’re all very grateful for the help we received on the day from VolkerLaser. Our chill-out rooms look amazing, and it’s made a massive difference. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the near future.”

Giving Demezla a helping hand

On Thursday 6 February, we wrapped up another week of volunteering opportunities by helping out at the Demezla warehouse in Kent.

Demelza is a charity that delivers extraordinary care to extraordinary children who are facing serious or life-limiting conditions, throughout Kent, South East London and East Sussex. They have a number of charity shops in the South of England and needed support in sorting through a huge amount of donations.

Our operations manager, Nico Wessels, joined colleagues from across the National Highway’s Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) supply chain to tackle piles of book donations, getting these ready to be sent out to the various charity shop locations.

“Thanks so much to all of you for coming today to help us process the huge amount of book donations we’ve received – it really is a huge help.”
