Port of Dover project shortlisted for British Construction Industry Award
VolkerLaser is delighted to share the Pier F project at the Port of Dover has been shortlisted in the Retrofit Project of the Year category at the 2024 British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA).
The project was a collaborative effort between VolkerLaser, Port of Dover, Cullen Grummitt & Roe and Tony Gee and Partners, and saw the service life of Pier F and its approach bridges extended, through bearing upgrade and replacement, and included the retrofit of GRP permanent access walkways that allowed for regular bearing inspection and maintenance, without impacting Port operations.
With up to 130 ferry movements handling up to 110 miles of time-sensitive freight traffic on peak days, minimising the impact on port operations is critical to the UK's busiest international ro-ro port. The team at Port of Dover are therefore delighted that the value of this project is being recognised for doing just that.
The BCIA are the most prestigious awards in the built environment, and seek to recognise excellence in project delivery, with the Retrofit Project of the Year being a new category for 2024.
The combined team will be presenting a more in-depth overview of the project to the judges in September, before the winners are announced at the awards ceremony in London on 9 October 2024.
