M54 Newport Road
As part of our ongoing works on the Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) for National Highways, VolkerLaser completed maintenance to the M54 bridge above Newport Road in Shropshire.
Our specialist team was required to undertake a full bridge refurbishment with the scope of works including many of our core specialisms - concrete repair, waterproofing, new concrete verges, a new concrete central reserve barrier, new surfacing and line marking.
Due to the nature of the project, significant traffic management was required. We undertook works across six consecutive weekend closures, followed by four weeks of night closures and a final two consecutive weekend closures.
As principal contractor on the scheme, our team was responsible for all stakeholder management including close liaison with client National Highways. Thanks to this collaborative relationship, our team was able to include additional works into the programme, undertaking retexturing works in tandem with the bridge refurbishment saving the client on extra traffic management costs.
All works were completed on time and to budget.
