The Gold Award was awarded to VolkerLaser in recognition of the company's continuing successful improvements in health and safety both in the planning stages and implementing the procedures and practices into the operational side of the business.

The RoSPA Gold Award will be presented in a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre, on Wednesday May 15, 2013.

Dating back 57 years, the RoSPA Awards scheme is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK. It recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention and is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. The scheme not only looks at accident records, but also entrants' overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

David Rawlins, RoSPA's awards manager, said: "RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. VolkerLaser has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award."

Phil Parslow, HSEQ manager, said: "We are extremely pleased to have won this prestigious award. This last year has seen many improvements to the VolkerLaser safety management system. We have been engaging across the business and utilising the valuable experience of the VolkerWessels UK corporate responsibility team in order to build upon our knowledge and practice.

"The award is a reward for the hard work and commitment of everyone at VolkerLaser. It demonstrates our desire to continually improve safety standards across the company."
