VolkerLaser supports Tour De Moor
On Sunday 10 October, eight volunteers from VolkerLaser headed to Dartmoor to lend their support at the annual Tour De Moor event.
The event, organised by St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth, is one of the biggest fundraising events in the area, and was bought to the attention of the team working on the Tamar Bridge project. After putting on the brakes last year due to the pandemic, the Tour de Moor biking challenge was finally given the green light for 2021, attracting more than 1,500 participants.
On the day, colleagues from the Tamar site team, as well as from head office in Worcester, joined a host of other volunteers to help the hospice throughout the day, with marshal duties, and welfare vehicles, as well as handing out medals and refreshments on the finish line.
The team were also delighted to present a cheque for £2,000 on behalf of VolkerLaser, donated to support the hospice in the vital work they provide within the local community. St Luke’s care for people with serious illnesses, such as cancer, motor neurone disease, heart failure, multiple sclerosis and chronic lung disease, providing specialist medical care, as well as vital emotional, practical and spiritual support.
St Luke’s event fundraiser, Rebecca Kelly, said: “On behalf of everyone here at St Luke’s, we would like to say thank you for your support of St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth Tour de Moor event, this year. You all went above and beyond in supporting the event, from welfare vehicles, to cheering and guiding the participants en route! Not forgetting your kind donation of £2,000, as well as the defibrillator, which is on its way. We have never had a company get quite so involved, and jump into it with such enthusiasm and passion before, so we were truly inspired.
“The event this year has been a huge success, and our first official Tour de Moor event in the city post COVID-19 restrictions. We’re delighted that the event has so far raised £61,000, with lots more still trickling in! Your donation in both time, money, and gifts, have made this possible.
“You have made a real difference to patients of St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth, and their families, in the last months, weeks and days of life. At home, in hospital or at the hospice based in Turnchapel, the money raised through the Tour de Moor will help us continue to provide their vital specialist care and support, clinically, emotionally, and socially. Please know that your support at our events, raises funds to help make it possible for patients under our care to build memories with their families; whether it be helping to arrange a wedding, a last trip to the cinema with loved ones and even a visit from a patient’s horse – you are really making a difference to those at the end of their lives, bringing smiles and happiness in the most difficult of times.”
