VolkerLaser shortlisted for Structural Concrete Alliance Award
The concrete repair works to 12 Quay at King George Docks has seen VolkerLaser shortlisted for the Structural Concrete Alliance Award at the 2018 Concrete Society Awards.
Quayside
VolkerLaser were awarded the project from Associated British Ports (ABP) as a result of previous success in delivering strengthening and repair works to the Saltend Jetty in 2013. The dilapidated quayside at the King George Docks in Hull required over 700m of vital strengthening and repair works to restore its structural integrity and maintain essential port trade.
Innovation
King George Docks marks the very first time carbon fibre wrapping has been successfully utilised for structural strengthening within a marine environment.
This £2.5m project was designed around the use of concrete repair, sprayed concrete, cathodic protection and CFRP strengthening, providing an innovative, value for money solution, which showcases the project as a strong contender for the award.
Anniversary
The award winner will be announced at the 50th anniversary Concrete Society Awards ceremony being held at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Wednesday 21 November.
