Built in 2006, the car park at Silverburn Shopping Centre was originally constructed using a combination of steel frames and post tensioned concrete. It consists of four parking levels and a two storey service yard.

The original scope of works detailed the removal of existing coatings on level four and re-building the deck in concrete. However, as well as submitting a compliant bid, the VolkerLaser team proposed an innovative value engineered solution, which would remove the need to build up the whole deck on level four and deal with ponding issues locally.

This significant cut in costs enabled the client, Silverburn Trustee Ltd, to add a range of additional works to the contract. The works will now include the installation of 42,000m² of Sika Pronto, painting of the steel frame structure with intumescent (fire resistant) paint, removing and replacing cladding panels, resin injection works, replacement of movement joints, installation of new gullies and concrete repairs.

Minor prep works began on Monday 29 October, with full scale works scheduled to begin on Monday 21 January 2019 and will continue through to October 2019.
