VolkerLaser delivering joy
Colleagues from across VolkerLaser generously donated to a Christmas appeal, allowing the business to share funds with five chosen causes.
Each year, VolkerLaser supports the Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal, by providing gifts and donations to a centre in Worcester, local to the head office.
In 2021, the VolkerLaser mental health forum wanted to expand this to include food banks, hospices, and care homes across the UK, close to sites and office where teams were working.
Aptly named ‘Delivering Joy’, VolkerLaser employees generously donated a total of £615, meaning the business could deliver joy to five different causes:
Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal
£205 was donated to the Salvation Army, a charity supported annually by the VolkerWessels UK businesses.
Runcorn and District Foodbank – Trussell Trust
A further £105 was donated to the Runcorn and District Foodbank, local to the Runcorn office and supported by The Trussell Trust.
The food bank provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people in crisis.
Halton Haven Hospice
Another £105 donation was given to the Halton Haven Hospice, in Runcorn, as part of a larger charitable donation organised by Ian and Nicola Wilkinson. Nicola, who works at the Runcorn office, said: “Each year my husband lights up our home with Christmas lights, synchronised to music, in a display for local people, young and old, to enjoy. He has done this for many years, but it has grown in size and popularity within the local community, and people generously donate each year to our chosen charity, the Halton Haven Hospice.”
Willen Hospice
A £100 donation was also sent to Willen Hospice – the only adult care hospice in Milton Keynes. The hospice is located close to the Bletchley Flyover site, where VolkerLaser is working alongside the EWR Alliance. Willen Hospice is run by local people for local people, and provides compassionate, personal end of life care.
Emmaus Dover
The final £100 donation was given to Emmaus in Dover, a charity that provides a home and meaningful work to 27 formerly homeless people. The charity works in the community living near to the East Cliff viaduct project, where VolkerLaser has been working since 2019.
