The VolkerLaser 14,000 mile challenge

On Sunday 1 August, colleagues from across the VolkerLaser business will embark on a 14,000 mile challenge, raising money for two chosen charities.

Throughout August and September, VolkerLaser want to complete the world’s longest continuous walking route, as a team, remotely. This means just under 14,000 miles of walking, running, cycling, swimming, or a mixture of all four.

Whilst it’s pretty impossible to complete this walk ‘in real life’, the original route starts in Cape Town, travels through Tanzania, Egypt and Turkey, before finally ending up in Russia.

Over the course of two months, the team is going to work together to complete all 14,000 miles. This will be done by clocking up miles at the gym, an after work run, a weekend swim or cycle, or even a lunchtime walk with colleagues.

The challenge has been initiated by two of the businesses working groups – PALS and the mental health forum. They wanted to create a challenge which gets colleagues out and about, and moving each day, as well as working as a team - all whilst raising money for two fantastic charities.

All monies raised will be split between The Lighthouse Club and the Construction Youth Trust.
The Lighthouse Club is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families.

Construction Youth Trust is a charity whose aim is to inspire and enable young people to overcome barriers and discover a career in the construction, and built environment sector.

The challenge is open to all VolkerLaser employees, with 40 signed up already. If you would like to support the VolkerLaser team, please feel free to donate via the JustGiving link here.
