Safety conscious staff raise over £14,000 for Mencap
In a combined effort to improve safety and support charity, staff across VolkerWessels UK have raised £14,076 for Mencap through the company’s hazard spotting initiative.
Through the scheme, which was launched in June 2013, VolkerWessels UK donates £1 to Mencap for each hazard, near miss or close call report completed by their staff.
VolkerWessels UK uses the reports to identify and rectify any issues that may cause injury or illness before they do. Consistent reporting of hazards, near misses and close calls is a proactive and proven method of preventing accidents in the workplace.
Adrian Shah-Cundy, head of corporate responsibility said: “This is a great achievement, not only have our employees been able to improve their own safety but also raise much needed funds for this worthy charity.
“Occupational health and safety is of paramount importance to VolkerWessels UK. Our employees really embrace hazard spotting and see it as a fantastic opportunity to promote active engagement in their working environment.”
Paddy Griffiths, head of corporate partnerships at Mencap said: “Through Mencap’s Safety Challenge partnership with VolkerWessels UK, we have raised just over £14,000. This is an incredible achievement and positively impacts the lives of people with a learning disability. We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support and look forward to working more with VolkerWessels UK in the future.”
