On the 24 June 2012, 6 members of the VolkerLaser Team (past and present) took part in the Worcester Race for Life.

The 5km event took the team around the Worcester Race Course, along the River Seven, through the streets of Worcester past "The Hive" Worcester's new iconic library and finished in Angel Place.  An impressive total of £1000 has been raised for Cancer Research UK so far.

There was a fantastic atmosphere and tremendous support by spectators all the way around the course.  At the finish line participants were greeted by well-wishers, supporters, and even cheerleaders all cheering them on.

With the support of VolkerLaser all six ladies, Julie Harwood, Helen Freed, Fran Webb, Katie Webb, Sam Smith and Claire Bingham crossed the finish line together.

All funds raised by the VolkerLaser team's participation in Race for Life go to Cancer Research UK, the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research.  Donations will help to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

The £1000 the VolkerLaser Ladies raised could cover around 22 day's running expenses for an important lab project into a type of children's cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. The study aims to identify molecules that are involved in driving tumour growth, and this could lead to improved treatments so that more children survive the disease in the future. However, as little as a £10 donation could buy 300 glass slides for studying cells and tumour samples in detail under the microscope.

If you would like to donate this can be done at cancerresearchuk.org
