Bathurst Basin bridge brings the local community together

On 12 February 2018, VolkerLaser representatives joined MetroBus, Peter Mann, Director of Transport at Bristol City Council, and Councillor Mhairi Threlfall, Cabinet Member for Transport, to meet local residents and 'Friends of the Avon New Cut to tell them all about the new bridge at Bathurst Basin.

Following the successful work at Ashton Avenue Swing Bridge VolkerLaser was contracted to construct the new bridge at Bathurst Basin, the cycling and walking path, with new safer crossings for pedestrians and the removal of the Louisiana roundabout.

The new bridge was designed to improve traffic flows for motorists and create more space for public transport, whilst also improving the environment for people who walk and cycle. The bridge, which includes a new 3.5 meter shared cycling and walking path provides the missing link between existing paths on Commercial Road and Cumberland Road.

Peter Mann said: “The construction of the bridge here at Bathurst Basin demonstrates that MetroBus isn’t just about buses. We’re making it easier for everyone to travel around the city and are building healthier and safer communities. I would like to thank VolkerLaser for carrying out the construction works, Ch2M for the design and supervision of the contract and colleagues at Bristol City Council for managing the project.
