Cathodic protection
VolkerLaser is experienced in the application of both impressed current and galvanic cathodic protection systems
Cathodic protection is when an impressed current system introduces a computer-controlled direct current to the reinforcement, which prevents corrosion. A galvanic system uses strips of zinc or aluminium fixed directly to the reinforcement, which subsequently corrode in favour of the steel until they themselves need to be replaced.
We have an expert team who can deliver full installation and testing / monitoring, as well as providing design and evaluation services to ensure buildability and effectiveness of a cathodic protection system.
We pioneered the design and installation of a Zebra impressed current cathodic protection system on the refurbishment of the Wolverhampton Civic Centre Car Park; the first time this innovative permanent protection method was seen in the UK.
